Wasn't able to find much about "Billy Bounce" the cartoon character but his illustrator became pretty darn famous about the same time this stripe hit the papers. W.W. Denslow illustrated "Billy Bounce" from 1901 to 1902 but his fame came for being the original illustrator of "The Wizard of Oz". Denslow also illustrated "Mother Goose in Prose" and "Father Goose: His Book". The "Billy Bounce" character became popular quickly and soon appeared on promotional merchandise such as banks, cigars and other novelties. Denslow drew the strip through August 1902, and then another illustrator, C. W. Kahles, continued the series until 1906. |
