These labels never went on the cigar box. They were usually bound in salesman sample books and used to display the various styles, artwork and prices of the labels a particular lithographer would have for sale. The type of information found on these sample labels would include the name and address of the lithographer along with the prices of the various labels that would reside on each box.
Some of the sample labels were very ornate displaying the actual end label, cigar band or the edging. This type of label is scarce and the majority of sample labels that were created never went into production. |
