The lithographer would print proofs to check the registration and to make sure the colors being used were correct. This type of label is usually not embossed and will show a series of crosses or registration marks used to align the paper to each stone. All proofs are rare since there were usually only 4 to 6 pulled by the lithographer to check an entire run of thousands of labels. Most desirable proofs have the color bar on the label which indicates how many colors are actually used but subject matter and the type of image are equally appealing.
